LO1:Understand how sound elements are used (P1)

Educate and inform:

I have put these two together due to using the same example from BBC 4 Sounds and the meaning is more the same. Educate and inform are the type of sound that informs and gives knowledge to the viewers and listeners, as well as tell the audience something the director and producers want society/ social media to know. It informs them with knowledge they may not have ever thought about or simply didn't know. This will allow the audience to have a deeper understanding of what is going on and the topic in hand in what they are watching and/or listening to. An example of sound used to educate viewers is news on BBC 4 sounds is news called "Report finds swimming's toxic culture". This is because this audio was created to raise awareness of what swimmers go through which is what happens behind the screens we watch and just behind everyone's eyes in general. This means that people who may love watching people swim, have competitions or take their children will be educated about the real world of what it is like being a swimmer. To confirm that the audio is correct and right with the information, there is a female who does Olympic medal winning, open water swimming competitions and speaks up as a victim herself, who had unfortunately been bullied and not listened or considered by until other swimmers started speaking up too. This is shown at 01:24, where she starts talking about how it began and how the system had made her insecure due to doing it not for the purpose of   'necessarily done to make me faster but a point of being referenced ' which in other words, things were put into place as they were keeping track of her weight not her abilities of strengthening her time of speed. This educated the audience with the way that what is shown on the screen with smiles on faces is not necessarily the case and that it informs the audience about the real word and treatment that is out there and how that poor women were made to feel.
Entertain:

Sound comes with different target audiences and content. A lot of content is recorded and created to entertain the viewers as audience is what makes business and in these cases media industries cash inflow. Directors use different sounds to attract certain viewers or certain listeners. Entertaining aspects also interlink with aspect such as joy, satisfaction and excitement. It is what makes people desired to consume. An example sound elements used to entertain the audience is a series on BBC 4 called English rose. This is because it educates as well as entertains the audience as it has that fiction story side as well as life lessons and reality check on how life is like for females having the male gaze and feeling uncomfortable in this society. Therefore, seeing English rose fight through her battles with different men whilst also fighting her hunger for blood is entertaining as there are comedic sides to it as shown at 13:01 as she says "okay, maybe the straight northern approach isn't going to work with these people". This would be appreciated and found entertaining as well as comedic for people that are from the northern side of England.

Sell products:

The sound elements that are presented help sell product to the audience and listeners. An example of this is the program dragons den. This is because this programme was all about people inventing a product to then convince investors to buy and invest in the product to make the new product go somewhere. This programme not only leads to the product being distributed but also advertises the products to the audience watching. Therefore, it shows the audience they can buy the same or have similar ideas when purchasing them specific products. The content being distributed by sound on the tv or social media will enhance the selling of products.

Wild tracks:

Wild track is when there is illustration that have audio to back the subject up and make it reality. For example, the game Hogwarts. This game being played on PS5, makes the controller vibrate as well as hearing the magical sounds when waving the wand and fighting figures, its the Wild tracks that brings the game to life and makes it feel reality. This is what makes elements enhance audience engagement and satisfaction as its the extra ump from wild tracks.

Atmospheric sounds:
Sound is what sets the atmospheres and moods when it comes to all types of media as well as audios, tv and games. An example of Atmospheric sounds is English rose, This is because the audience could hear the sounds of the waves crashing onto the ship with the birds chirping which indicates that English rose was now on a ship and allowed the audience to imagine the setting and actually feel the positive atmosphere.

Sound effects:
The sound effect elements that are being displayed through the sound enhance the audio in itself. An example of this is English rose. This is because as spoken before it has the aspect of vampires. The sound effect that are embedded into the series is what enhances the atmosphere to feel more realistic and as if you are there and gives a sort of fear. This is because there are sound effects of English rose biting and sucking on her pray which is displayed at 25:06 onwards as she gobbles the chosen man and sucks him off any blood left in his body. The sound effects that were made of the neck getting bitten and sucked on for a few seconds is what makes the series the series and more intriguing for the audience to watch.
